Staffan Widstrand had three awarded images in the ”European Nature Photographer of the Year 2003” competition awards ceremony in Lünen, Germany, on November 9. One Runner-up and two Highly Commended images. Out of more than 5000 entries by 370 photographers from all over Europe. – This was the first time I entered the GDT competition, so I am very happy that I was lucky already from start. The jury seemed to appreciate also the not only beautiful, as well as a more journalistic nature photography approach, which I think was brave of them, says Widstrand. The ceremony was held during the ”11:th International Nature Photography Festival” which was visited by some 3000 spectators during the weekend. Widstrand was one of the speakers at the festival, presenting a slide show and a talk about the Big Five Carnivores of Scandinavia.
